"GREASE" Season Ends
On Saturday night, 3rd September, the curtain came down on the final performance of our season of "Grease" at the Civic Theatre. It was almost a full house and the audience was cheering wildly. By the end of the season (including the charity opening night) over 8000 people had been to see the show making it the most successful production that Metropolitan Players has had since we began in 1977. A huge thank you goes to our cast, production team, orchestra and crew for all their hard work both before and during the season. Thank you also to all those organisations who supported us, as well as the staff at the Civic Theatre and Ticketek.
"Grease" opened at the Civic Theatre on Wednesday, 24th August to cheering crowds, record sales and critical acclaim. The opening night audience was cheering and clapping at the end of the show after a magical performance by the whole cast. The tickets sales have broken box office records for Metropolitan Players and it is now our most successful show ever.
In his review in the Herald, theatre critic Ken Longworth said that "the sound and look of the 1950s rock era are exhileratingly recreated in this staging". He went on to say that "the large cast and director Julie Black and her production team ensure that the bouncy large-scale numbers and more intimate songs in which characters reflect on their situations work equally well on the large Civic stage". Congratulations to the cast, production team, orchestra and crew.
Better get your tickets because they are selling fast.
Excitement is building for the opening night of "Grease" with the release of a large billboard at Broadmeadow advertising the show. The production moves into the Civc Theatre on Wednesday 17th August and this will be followed by a very busy production week and final dress rehearsals before the grand charity opening night on Wednesday 24th August.
"GREASE" Media Launch
The Media Launch for "Grease" was held at the Civic Theatre on Wednesday, 10th August. Members of the cast performed 4 musical items from the show to representatives from the print and electronic media and invited guests. The audience loved it.
The cast arrived in style outside the theatre in two 1950's chevrolets that created a great deal of attention. The cars were supplied by Chic Chevs and they are available for hire for weddings and functions. Click on the image to visit their website.
"GREASE" comes to Greater Union
On Wednesday night, 27th July, "Grease" arrived at Greater Union Cinemas at Glendale. There was a special screening of "Grease" Singalong for Chicks at the Flicks. Many of our cast performed 2 numbers from the show to the crowd and helped set the mood for the rest of the night.

Metropolitan Players was successful in getting support from Newcastle City Council through the Community Assistance Program for our season of "Grease". The support is in the form of an in-kind subsidy for use of the Civic Theatre. The City of Newcastle's Community Assistance Program supports community efforts to maintain the strength and vibrancy of Newcastle's community and economy and express cultural values. Our production of "Grease" is a totally local product with local actors, musicians and production staff and we are very grateful to the Council for their support.
You can go to the Visit Newcastle website to see the many other attractions and events that are available in Newcastle.
